I am Corey Wilson.
Corey Wilson is a concerned parent, who has served on both Dekalb County School Systems Parent Advisory Committee and Strategic Planning Committee (which focuses in the area of Customer Service). Corey served as the Co-President of Oak View Elementary Schools PTA for one year and as the President for two years. He has initiated and developed a chapter of the Fathers Being Involved Program at Oak View and subsequently, organized the implementation of the Fathers Being Involved Program within Dekalb County Schools. Serving on the Waldrop Farms homeowners' association, Corey is well known in his neighborhood.
Corey was named Operations Manager for CarMax's Roswell location in 2007. In this role, he ensures the successful development of the members of his team, while handling all customer concerns, endorsing all CarMax Training initiatives and assuring that all vehicles meet CarMaxs quality standards.
Before joining CarMax, Corey was employed by Advance Auto Parts for eight years, where he served in many roles including Store Manager, Regional Training Coordinator and District Manager.
Corey holds an Associates Degree in Business Administration from Georgia Perimeter College (formally DeKalb College) and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Georgia State University.
In his spare time, Corey is a devoted Atlanta Falcons fan where he has been a season ticket holder for the past seven years. Corey also volunteers his time as an assistant coach for his son's sports activities. He also spends a great deal of time working with children at South Dekalb's YMCA. You may occasionally see Corey riding his motorcycle alongside his wife.
Giving honor to God, Corey is a member of New Mercies Christian Church, where he is involved in several ministries.
Born in Atlanta, Ga. to the late Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Wilson, Corey moved to Dekalb County in 1979; where he currently resides with his wife and their children.
As a citizen of DeKalb County School Board District 3, since 1979, my purpose is to serve and meet the needs of the community by continuing my active role and participation with the needs of our children. As a parent with young children in a District 3 Elementary School, I have first hand knowledge of the areas that requires immediate attention. I will work with you and stand with you as I address the issues that hinders our school system from producing young boys and girls from becoming productive and successful men and women. It is my objective to work with the superintendent, co-board members, educators, administrative staff, and parents to develop strategic plans, which will focus on the following areas:
• Increase CRCT scores on all grade levels.
• Improve parent confidence in neighborhood schools.
• Support programs that increase parental involvement, with an emphasis on fathers.
• Ensure proper allocation of tax payer dollars
• Decrease furlough days for teachers
• Create an environment more conducive to learning
As a school board member, I will see to it that our children have the necessary tools needed to become successful leaders locally and abroad.
The mission of the DeKalb County School System is to form a collaborative effort between home and school that maximizes students' social and academic potential preparing them to compete in a global society.
Dekalb County School Board's mission statement is not a statement that I will take lightly, but a mission that I will strive to meet everyday.
